b2ap3_thumbnail_20140608_125013.jpgMy dear friends, welcome to My Own Italy to discover Italy with my personal touch!

Our travel today is to Lombardy to visit Milan from a particular point of view: I mean from the one dedicated to a sport of ancient and noble tradition.

How can't we be fascinated by the power and elegance of horses? And what best setting to enjoy a so engaging show as the San Siro Hippodrome?

b2ap3_thumbnail_20140608_130249.jpg In May 1888, the San Siro Hippodrome was opened and since then has been a growing success of audience and participation.

So successful that in 1919 was formed SIRE (Society for the Encouragement of Horse Breeds in Italy) to manage an increasingly articulated activity. Other lands were added to the first, with stables and training tracks.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG-20140608-WA0021.jpg In 1920, designed by architect Paolo Vietti Violi, the new hippodrome gallop was inaugurated; five years later, in 1925, it was the time of the racecourse trot, renovated fifty years later.

With the Hippodrome Milan could take over an immense green space, where alternate passion for horse racing with the pleasure of long walks outdoors.

A place to meet to cheer the riders: the San Siro Racecourse is the place that fulfills a passion of ancient origin such as that of horses, and combined it with the desire for leisure and the pleasure to be outdoors.

b2ap3_thumbnail_129_Derby_ph_Grasso.JPGIt is impossible not to be fascinated by the exciting races of the trot as well as the adrenaline races of the gallop.

The hippodrome is in fact a huge area surrounded by greenery and entirely dedicated to equestrian sports: from the stables to the cross-training to services for the staff.

b2ap3_thumbnail_20140608_130906.jpgThe area of San Siro hippodrome gallop spread over nearly one and a half million square meters and is divided into two parts.

The first is the one of trot, which covers an area of 152 thousand square meters, with about 30 000 reserved for the two tribunes and which can accommodate 6 thousands spectators.

The second is that of the Gallop, consisting of Trenno track, which has an oval shape and extends over two thousand square meters and 45 thousand square meters for the public, with a capacity of over 20 thousand people.
