b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_7121.JPG My friends, welcome to My Own Italy to discover Italy with my personal touch!

Our travl today is in Veneto and after visiting Venice and the Splendid Doge's Palace, you will choose for your accomodation Hotel Angi.

You can't miss a visit to a really noble and aristocratic place: Villa Pisani.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_7092.JPGVilla Pisani, also named "The Nazionale", is certainly one of the most famous examples of Venetian Villas along the Brenta Riviera, situated in the municipality of Stra, in the province of Venice

This Villa, which dates back to 1735, was commissioned by the Doge Pisani Almorò, and the real project was carried out by architect Francesco Maria Preti.

The monumental building has a rectangular plan with two interior courtyards, separated by columns supporting the majestic ballroom.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_7146.JPGVilla Pisani presents a main facade really impressive: the central body is crossed by a balcony supported by four monumental caryatids.

From the balcony eight Corinthian semi-columns rise up

From a cornice decorated with flower garlands supported by putti, rises a triangular pediment decorated with statues.

At the time of building the Villa Pisani had 114 rooms (now 168), in honor of the 114th Doge of Venice, Alvise Pisani.

Because of its monumentality, the Villa has been repeatedly chosen as a residence or as a venue for meetings between monarchs, heads of state and government; in 1807 Villa Pisani became the property of Napoleon Bonaparte, who bought it from the Pisani family and then sold to viceroy of Italy, Eugène de Beauharnais.

The Pisani Santo Stefano, clients of this Villa, were an important branch of the Pisani family, a noble Venetian family, enriched a lot during the fifteenth century thanks to the gains obtained with the trade.

If you want to visit this masterpiece of the eighteenth century I suggest you to dedicate at least half a day to enjoy with calm the interiors of the Villa and then relax in the beautiful gardens of Villa Pisani, which in 2008 were recognized as "The most beautiful park in 'Italy'.

The park offers incredible scenarios, original architectures, green houses and also the famous labyrinth. At the end of the park there is the "orangery". In fact, according to mythology, Hercules was so strong because he ate citrus

For this reason, each Doge or the King wanted to eat citrus all year also in cold climates: they  created the greenhouses in winter to keep the lemon and orange trees!

Also, it's worth noting is the beautiful labyrinth of boxwood hedges, one of three hedge labyrinths survived until today in Italy.

In the labyrinth took place the game between the ladies and knights.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_7153-ter.jpgThe lady was placed on the central tower with her face masked and the knight had to reach her, and once there, she revealed her true identity, but it was always a surprise!

Villa Pisani is really charming and for me it was an exceting experience.

Leisure me: this is my tourism!
